The FOREST SATURATION CENTER, located in an artificial forest outside downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan, aims to restore the surrounding forest to its natural, self-sufficient state.

Research shows one of the most effective and efficient methods to restore forest land is to leave it alone. This structure is designed to stop, educate, and redirect hikers and pedestrians from entering the healing forest.

The Forest Saturation Center challenges what it means to care for nature. I ask, how can we simultaneously be conscious of our well-being, and the well-being of our green spaces? Parks, forests, gardens, and all other natural environments house their ecosystems in need of care and support too.

“Designing with care requires us to be attuned to fragile entanglements among the human and non-human others for and with whom we design. Amid the global climate crisis, the livelihoods and fates of all entities on the planet are unavoidably intertwined.”
